Disabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling Halves RAM Usage

;tldr;

Enabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling results in the computer appearing to use full RAM, but I CANNOT simultaneously view videos and game. The video locks although the audio plays.

Disabling Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, and the computer only uses HALF the installed RAM, but I CAN simultaneously view videos and game.

I like to play games and watch movies simultaneously. I couldn't play any video stream while gaming on this new ABS computer.  After some of my own research, I found that I needed to disable Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling.  What is this?  I don't know, but it fixed the video issue.  And it would be a great place to end this story but....

With Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled, it appears that my computer won't use but half the RAM.  Is it stuck at 16GB, or 50% of 32GB - I don't know and they're not the same thing....  I reseated and swapped physical sticks of RAM.  I even reset CMOS.  No luck.

Now ABS is having me do some surgery but it's all shotgun approach. I'm wondering if anyone knows why my RAM would half with H-AGPUS and how I can fix this to have all my resources at the same time.

Thanks,

slog

    It appears to be working fairly fine now. Tested with H-AGPUS on with Davinci rendering, Fallout 4 heavily modded playing, and Media Player Classic with a 2gb video on. There was some stuttering at 22GB RAM used, but what would one expect under that load? Thank you for your time. Unsure what changed.

    Hello,

    Thanks for reaching out here in the Microsoft Answers Community.

    Since you have mentioned that it "Use only half of the installed RAM", please right-click Start->Task manager->Performance->Memory, and check whether half of the RAM is marked as "hardware reserved". If so, it is almost certain that the motherboard has detected that one of the 2 memory channels are unreliable and disabled it.

    If you have any kinds of overclocking or undervoltage set up in the system and in BIOS (including memory XMP), please disable them, and see whether the issue persists.

    If you are going to modify BIOS Settings, please back up all your personal files first to ensure you do not lose data.

    Also, since you have mentioned that after enabling "Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling", you cannot view videos and play games at the same time. What is the game, and are you running them in full-screen mode? Some games will take over the GPU and the display when running in full-screen, so try running them in windowed or borderless fullscreen mode, and see whether the issue persists.

    We look forward to your response.
