I'm Adjunct faculty. Means I can work for free, but I get benefits.
Ask the University then.
We do not work for Microsoft and Microsoft never looks at or replies in these Windows 7 forums.

I have a Windows 7 ultimate disc I bought from my university while I was a student. I installed it on an older desktop that eventually died. I still have one or two programs that won't run on Windows 11. I recently installed my copy of Windows 7 on a VM (Oracle VirtualBox) on my Windows 11 desktop to run these programs. However, I'm unable to authenticate Windows 7 on the VM. The install key in the disk cover doesn't work, and both online and phone authentication attempts failed.
Is the reason I can't authenticate Windows 7 because of the type of dustribution I bought (i.e., from a university) or is there some way I can get this version authenticated so I can avoid the nag screens calling me a criminal? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm more interested in knowing why I can't authenticate a copy of Windows 7 that I used on a now dead desktop computer.
I don't know what if it's a Retail or OEM System Builders license.
"Licensed to use only by Students and Faculty"
You are no longer a Student there.
It also says: "Student Media"
You are no longer a Student there and it is no longer installed on the computer that you used when a Student.

As you have programs that will not run on Windows 11, ask in the Windows 11 forums here how to get them to run, if possible.

We do not work for Microsoft and can not activate it for you.
You do not say whether it is a Retail or OEM System Builders license.
