File Explore basics tutorial

My saved downloads, documents, any item I try to save in File Explorer are all going to different folders at random apparently. All of my File Explore is 'screwed up'!

Please, please, can someone tell me a simple way to clean it up and get it back to the way it was set up when Windows 10 came upon the scene.

I save very little, mainly pictures, temporary files and a few important documents.

File EX. was set up to send all downloads automatically to Quick Access or This PC......then, I mistakenly tried One Drive for about one month - didn't like it so several times I attempted to remove everything from OneDrive and discontinue its service. That was months ago yet I note that Edge downloaded pictures to OneDrive yesterday.

Also, the Navigation Pane on File EX. lists about everything I have on this computer in addition to the standard Quick Access, This Pc, etc. That began several months after a few weird Windows Updates that didn't appear to install correctly. Navigation Pane even includes Control Panel Folder with everything listed in Control Panel, plus folders that I have no idea what they are or where they suddenly appeared from.

If it is a very difficult task to clean up File Ex. please send suggestions of other methods to fix it. I just want a Very basic Navigation Pane and very few folder that Edge can automatically send my saves to.

OR...Please guide me to a source that will have a basics Tutorial for Windows File Explorer. (one For Dummies is preferred!)

I simply want Edge to Save or Download into Quick Access or Pictures. I don't need to save to any other folders. Actually, all I am really concerned about saving is the Pictures.

I am a very old senior, not computer wise. Please help me get out of this mess!!!

MY PC: HP desktop - Windows 10 - v. 21H2 - bld. 19044.1889 - Edge 104.0.1293.70

Your pictures should go to your Pictures folder. It's up to you to check before you click on save to check and see where they are being saved to.

    Files & storage (microsoft.com) for Windows 10

You should check your local bookstore for a book titled, My Windows 10 Computer for Seniors by Michael Miller. It should have a DVD with it too with instructions and video on how to use Windows 10.
