Why is it that whenever i install the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5013942) windows update that my Ethernet doesnt work anymore. and when i roll back the update (which is a nerve wracking process) the ethernet suddenly works.

Obviously its because i rolled back the old update. Is the new update that i got on the 5/13/2022 bugged/broken?

i need answers

    Hi mikafika,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I will suggest that you install the update again then if the Ethernet fails to work. Try the following methods.

    1. Update or Rollback the Ethernet driver in the Device Manager.

Open Device Manager >> click Network Adapters >> right- click your Ethernet driver >> click Update Driver.

If the system says that you have the latest driver installed. Try to Roll back the driver. Right-click your Ethernet driver >> click Properties >> click Driver tab >> click Roll back driver.

    1. Run Windows troubleshooter.

Open Settings >> Update and Security >. Troubleshoot >> click Network Adapter >> click Run the troubleshooter.

    1. Uninstall the currently installed Ethernet driver then download and install the older/different version of the driver from the PC manufacturer's website.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

No one here can know, because we don't know how you setup your local network. All we can do is guess, so here's my guess:

You setup your local network in Windows in whole or in part. Thus, whenever an update to Windows replaces the files that are part of your network setup, the network is lost.

The correct way to setup your network is in your router, using your router's administration utility (which doesn't use Windows.) When you do this, your local network is unaffected by whatever happens to your copy of Windows. You could shut down Windows and power off your computer and your network would still exist.

To setup your local network the right way, you'll need to do two things:

1- try to undo whatever network setup steps you did in Windows; then

2- dig out your router's owners guide. It should begin with detailed, step-by-step instructions for setting up your local network.

If you want to try this, and you can't find your router's owners manual, no worries, just post your router's manufacturer and model number, and we can find the owner's guide on the manufacturer's website. If you're real lucky, your router may have an 'emulator' online, which can show you exactly what you will see in the router's administration utility.

Some people with certain computer uses are having issues with the updates that just dropped.

But, all you need to do is make a backup image and also have your files automatically backup. The need to feel nerve wracking goes to zero lol. Improve how you do things :-)
