Is Maps an Add-in Feature in Excel? It seems that a few months ago, I had to do an Add-in before using it. Now, I'm getting ready to teach Excel for the Fall semester and am not sure if it is still an Add-in or if the updates changed it to be part of the default setup. If it is still an Add-in, I will need to provide instructions to my online students.

Thank you for your quick response. I was almost certain that I had to do an Add-In a few months ago when I tried it for the first time.

    Hi Brenda,

For Office 365 Subscription and Office 2019, this feature is available on Windows or Mac. And it's a feature instead of add-in. You mentioned that you had to do an Add-In a few months ago, if you are using Office 365 ProPlus, we would like suggest you try to create a Map chart in Excel and check if there still have to do some add-ins. Per my research and test, it's not an Add-in in Excel for Office 365 now.

    Best Regards,

    Ivy

The PowerMap addon was included in 2013.  You have to turn the addon on.  In 2016 PowerMap is renamed to 3D Map.

Only Office 365 has the built in MapChart feature. I'm guessing at school you are using 365 so you should be OK

    Hi Brenda,

Thanks for your supports of our products.

Map chart feature is not an add-in in Excel, you can find add-ins in Insert-> Add-ins-> Get Add-ins. I searched Map in there, didn’t find it but Bing Map is an add-in in Excel.

However, it did have some limitations, for your reference:

    1. This feature is available on Windows or Mac if you have Office 2019, or if you have an Office 365 subscription.
    2. Map charts can only plot high-level geographic details, so latitude/longitude, and street address mapping isn’t supported. Map charts also support one-dimensional display only.
    3. Creating new maps, or appending data to existing maps requires an online connection (to connect to the Bing Map service).
    4. Existing maps can be viewed without an online connection.

For more information, you can have a look at this article to know about Map feature.

    Regards,

    Ivy
