Why is word stuck on default page setup “Index card” on my Mac? I kept changing the setup to “US Letter”, but it keep going back to the “Index card” setting. I even reset the printer system and reinstalled the printer.

While the others bicker about who said what [both being wrong about what the other replied, BTW] let's shift the focus back to you & your issue :-) First, please clarify that this is exactly what you're doing... Defining the Default Paper Size should require nothing more than these 6 steps:

  1. Go to Format> Document
  2. Click the Page Setup button
    • [The defaults cannot be changed by going to File> Page Setup... any changes made there affects only the current document.]
  3. Select the preferred Paper Size
  4. Click OK
  5. Click the Default button
  6. Confirm updating the Normal template

If that isn't working for you there is something interfering with the process. To start determining what that is please go to Word> About Microsoft Word in the main menu to determine the present Version & the type of License for your Office software. Include that in your reply as wall as indicating the flavor of macOS you're running it on.

"Link given by CharlesKenyon IA may not help you because contents in it are for PC, while you are using Office for Mac."

    Hello Robinson,

I guess you didn't look at the page. The link I gave is for How to Find the Normal Template in computer version of Word except 2008 on the Mac which does not have vba.  Even for 2008, it includes locations on Mac systems.

Nevertheless, in many ways the first method using the page layout dialog is preferable when it works since it does not risk actually opening the normal template as a document. The second method is the same one I recommended, except double-clicking on the normal template will not open it for editing but rather will create a new document.

    Hi Lien999,

Link given by CharlesKenyon IA may not help you because contents in it are for PC, while you are using Office for Mac. I have tested on my side and successfully change my default page setup. Here are two ways to set default page set up:

    The first method:

    1. Click File>Page setup and set your perfered page—Us letter.

    1. Set US letter as default, click Format>document

    1. Click default at left bottom

    1. Click OK In the pop-up.

If the first method doesn’t work on your side, please try the second method:

Change page setup in Normal.dotm which new documents are based on, you can find Normal.dotm IN this path: /Users/username/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates

Here is an article for your reference: Change the default settings for new documents

    Hope these can help you.

    Regards,

    Robinson

    Hi

You need to change your normal template's page size.

The most straightforward way to do that is to OPEN it and change the page size, then save.

Here is how to find the normal template.

    http://addbalance.com/word/normaltemplate.htm#Find

Here on the same page is how to open it in any computer version of Word except 2008.

    http://addbalance.com/word/normaltemplate.htm#Open

Again, you need to open it. The default action when you double-click on a template is to create a new document based on the template. If in the title it says Document1, 2, etc. you do not have the template open.

This forum is a user-to-user support forum. I am a fellow user.

    I hope this information helps.
