Error code: 0-2031 (17002)

Hi,

Since the last update of my windows 10 MS office cannot start properly. Once Word, Excel, and other Office apps are opened an error pops up saying "We're sorry, but * ran into an error that is preventing it from working correctly...".

I've searched this website for help but all proposed solutions does not work. The following are the solutions I have tried doing:

    1. Since the "Repair now" DOES NOT WORK, this site suggested to open control panel > programs > uninstall a program > Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise - en - us > change > online repair > repair. After doing this steps and waiting for it to "fix" itself, the same error code pops up.

    2. Uninstall and reinstall. The problem with this is that uninstalling itself via control panel does not work. MS office will open then "uninstalling office" window will display but will not finish. It will spit out another error code that says it is unable to uninstall office.

    3. Installing MS office via Microsoft Store does not work. The app store itself is broken since any other app does not want to download/install.

I have been using office 365 for about a year without any issue but since the W10 updated, the app does not want to open. I have sufficient storage space, strong and consistent internet connect, and an updated Windows 10

Regards,

Ethan

I have finally had success!

Turned off antivirus, downloaded the Microsoft tool and ran it, then used my original office setup icon on the desktop to reinstall.

Hoorah!

The dreaded word Update caused the problem. Always causes some issue or other. Wish I didn't have to do the updates.

    Hi Mia,

I've tried the clean boot. The instruction gave two options:

A.) open the application after clean booth - the same error pops up

B.) uninstall the application - I was finally able to completely uninstall MS office (it was impossible previously). Once I reinstall MS office once again, *Error code :30015-11 (3221356598)*appear. After closing, another prompt displays which says "couldn't install" with another Error code: 0-2031 (17002).

I forgot to mention previously that I already tried to use Sara. This doesn't fix the problem.

Tried to use the ODT to install MS office but the link you provided have a way too complicated and unconcise instructions. I will try to find a Youtube video to have a clearer instruction. I will get back to this thread if ODT works.

    Regards,

    Ethan B.S.

    Hi Mia

Sorry for the late reply. I've tried to install via the MS Office website and ODT through another user profile. Both did not work and gave the same error code.

    Regards,
    Ethan

Any progress Ethan (or the MS experts) since the last advice was posted here? I ran into the same issue (or at least the error codes suggest it is the same issue) four days ago and cannot figure it out. I tried all the suggestions here and even reinstalled Windows 10 (clean install) with the same results - Office installation fails shortly before the end with the same code 0-2031 (17002). Word (Excel, PowePoint...) start with the error "We're sorry but Word has run into an error that is preventing it ... " etc

Any insight on what is causing this (Windows update?) or what else can be tried will be very helpful.

    Thank you!
