Windows not Activating

Hi All,

I'm having some issues activating Windows. I recently purchased Windows from the Microsoft store under the same account I am currently setting up my computer. However, I am getting "error code: 0xC004F213" and I cannot activate windows. I've tried the troubleshooting steps provided by Microsoft, but they don't resolve the issue. I purchased the key on my MacBook and I'm wondering if that could cause an issue? I am also surprised I didn't get an email with a product key or whether the purchase ever went through. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? I don't want to have to purchase Windows again.

Thanks!

That's interesting. Thanks for sharing the screenshot and for the update.

    Try to check these steps:

    1. Check Settings > System > About, and confirm that the installed edition says Windows 11 Home, and not Pro, Enterprise, or Education. If the edition doesn't match, your Home license won't be able to activate.
    2. A second approach is to run the Activation Troubleshooter by going to Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Troubleshoot. Given that you're signed in, it should be able to pull the digital license from your account.
    3. Check that the problem isn’t related to your account by opening Settings > Accounts > Your Info to ensure your Microsoft account isn’t a local account. You can also see if your device is listed under ‘account.microsoft.com/devices’ on your account.
    4. Sometimes a simple Sign out of your Microsoft account and sign back in will resolve it, but failing that, there isn’t anything we can suggest short of contacting Microsoft Support. If you’re confirmed that you’ve made the correct purchase, matched the edition, and signed in with the correct account. Since it still doesn't activate, sending your order number to the Microsoft Store Support, as shown in your screenshot, and asking them to re-associate the manual license is recommended.

    Here's how to reach them:

    Visit: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact

Type "Your concern" in the search bar and press Enter

Scroll down and select "Sign in to contact support" (or "Contact Support" if you're already signed in)

Choose "Windows" under Products and services

    Select "Technical support" under Category

Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser"

Thanks for reaching out. I will do my best to help. The Error you've provided usually means “no product key found” on your device. Let’s figure this out together.

First, I'd like to ask a few questions:

    • When you purchased it, did you see the purchase under Order history at account.microsoft.com
    • Are you setting up Windows on a brand-new PC, or did you upgrade from Home to Pro? Please make sure to check the right edition, as this also varies with the correct edition of Windows.
    • Did you sign in with your Microsoft account during Windows setup, or are you using a local account right now?

In the meantime, here's what you can do:

    1. Check your order history at account.microsoft.com/billing/orders

If the order shows up there, it means the purchase went through.

    1. Digital license vs. product key: If you bought Windows directly from the Microsoft Store, you usually don’t get an email with a product key. Instead, your Microsoft account gets a digital license. That means once you sign in with the same account on your PC, activation should be automatic.
    2. Run the Activation Troubleshooter

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Troubleshoot. If your Microsoft account is linked, it should pick up the license.

    1. Confirm edition match.

If you purchased Windows 11 Pro, make sure your current installation is Pro. A Pro license will not activate a Home edition.

If the order doesn’t appear under your Microsoft account, the purchase may not have completed. In that case, you’ll need to contact Microsoft Store Support to verify your order.
