So, this issue happens because of temporary service disruptions, app version conflicts, or SMS verification problems. GroupMe uses phone number verification, so delays in getting the PIN can cause this error.
To fix it, try clearing your cache, switching networks (like trying Wi-Fi instead of mobile data) , or using another browser or device. If you're not in the U.S., be sure your phone accepts international texts.
Updating the GroupMe app could also make a difference, or you could use the web version in incognito mode. If none of that works, just hang tight for about 24 to 48 hours and then reach out to GroupMe support.
