I purchased a copy of Windows 11 Pro OEM from the official distributor in Jordan, Logicom, and tried to activate it on a new computer. I downloaded the Windows copy from the included CD, and when I entered the license, I received the following message: the product key that you entered didn't work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. 0x80041023

    Hello Amjad Irshaid,

The error code you are seeing, 0x80041023, is specific to OEM activation and indicates that the product key you entered is not valid for the edition of Windows currently installed. This usually happens when the media used to install Windows does not match the license type. OEM keys are edition‑locked and hardware‑bound, meaning they will only activate the exact edition they were issued for, and only on the first machine they are tied to.

Since you installed Windows 11 from the CD included with the OEM package, the most likely cause is that the installation media did not match the license edition. For example, if the CD installed Windows 11 Home or a generic retail image, the OEM Pro key will not activate. You can confirm this by checking the installed edition under Settings > System > Activation. If it shows anything other than Windows 11 Pro, you need to switch editions. To do this, go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key and enter the generic Pro edition key:

    Code

    VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

This will force the system to switch to Windows 11 Pro. After the edition change completes and the system restarts, you can then re‑enter your OEM key from Logicom to activate.

If the edition is already Pro and the key still fails, then the issue is either that the OEM key has already been bound to another device, or the distributor provided a key that has not been correctly registered with Microsoft’s activation servers. In that case, the only resolution is to contact Logicom directly with proof of purchase, or open a support case with Microsoft to validate the key. Microsoft can check the activation status of the OEM key against their licensing servers and confirm whether it is blocked, mis‑issued, or requires replacement.

To summarize: check the installed edition, force the edition switch if necessary using the generic Pro key, then re‑apply your OEM key. If activation still fails, escalate to Logicom or Microsoft Licensing Support with the key details.

I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!

The error message you received, "The product key that you entered didn't work. Check the product key and try again, or enter a different one. 0x80041023," indicates that there may be an issue with the product key you are using. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

    1. Incorrect Product Key: Double-check the product key you entered for any typos or errors. Ensure that you are using the correct key associated with the version of Windows 11 Pro you are trying to activate.
    2. Compatibility: Ensure that the product key matches the edition of Windows you have installed. For example, if you have installed Windows 11 Pro, make sure the key is specifically for that edition.
    3. OEM Version: Since you purchased an OEM version, ensure that it is being used on the hardware it was intended for. OEM keys are typically tied to the first device they are activated on.
    4. Activation Limitations: If the key has been used on another device or has reached its activation limit, it may no longer be valid. In this case, you may need to contact the distributor or Microsoft support for assistance.
    5. System Issues: Sometimes, system files may be corrupted or there may be issues with the Windows installation itself. Consider running a system check or reinstalling Windows if necessary.

If you continue to experience issues, it may be beneficial to reach out to Microsoft support or the distributor for further assistance.
