While I hold control, my spacebar doesn't register, and i know its not an issue with my keyboard, because the keyboard works just fine with other computers.

I disabled powertoys peek.

I even uninstalled Powertoys

Im at a loss of ideas now

    Hi JJ,

I understand how frustrating it is when your Spacebar doesn’t register when Ctrl is pressed. To better help you, I’d like to reconfirm the behavior — did you try to use the spacebar itself, or was it a Ctrl + Space combo?

On Windows 11, Ctrl + key(s) is reserved by the system for an action, hence your Space will not work when Ctrl is pressed. In the case that you’re trying to use Ctrl + Space, what action did you intend to achieve? While waiting for more information, here's something you can also check out:

1 - Confirm the combo is working

    • If you have an Excel sheet (or Google sheets, if you use it instead) > Open the file
    • Click a random cell > press Ctrl + Space
      • If a column was chosen, your keys are working as intended.
      • If nothing changes, there might be something wrong.

2 - Turn off Accessibility shortcuts

    • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard
    • Make sure Sticky Keys / Filter Keys are OFF

3 - Rule out background software with a clean boot

    • Follow this guide on How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support
    • Search Windows for msconfig > open and disable all non-Microsoft startup items/services > restart your PC.
    • If the problem is gone, it's likely that one of your downloaded apps was the cause. You may need to manually enable them half-by-half to identify the offender, then consider removing or disabling it.

Disclaimer: A "clean boot" starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background service is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem. They might look complicated at first glance but can help you get back on track. To avoid any trouble, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

Let me know which app you expect Ctrl + Space to work in, and if the combo testing as instructed in #1 works!

On Windows 11 this behavior is usually caused by software intercepting or remapping keys rather than a hardware fault.

Since PowerToys is installed, Keyboard Manager or another PowerToys feature may be blocking or remapping Ctrl or Space even if Peek is disabled.

    Try these steps:

    1. Run PowerToys as administrator
      • If the app where Ctrl+Space fails is running elevated (as administrator) and PowerToys is not, remaps will not apply correctly.
      • Open PowerToys, go to its settings, and run PowerToys as an administrator, then test Ctrl+Space again.
    2. Reset/disable Keyboard Manager
      • Open PowerToys → Keyboard Manager.
      • Turn Keyboard Manager Off, then test Ctrl+Space.
      • If it works when Keyboard Manager is off, turn it back on and remove any key or shortcut remaps that involve Ctrl, Space, or common modifiers.
      • If another app also hooks the keyboard, it can interfere. In that case, disable and re-enable Keyboard Manager from its settings to reinitialize it.
    3. Avoid remapping modifier keys
      • If any remap involves Ctrl, Alt, Shift, or Win, it can break combinations like Ctrl+Space. Remove those remaps and test again.
    4. Test in another user profile or in Safe Mode
      • If Ctrl+Space works there, a third‑party app in the main profile is likely intercepting the shortcut. Disable or uninstall such utilities (macro tools, hotkey managers, security tools that hook the keyboard).

If none of the above helps, temporarily uninstall PowerToys and reboot to confirm whether the issue disappears. If it does, reinstall PowerToys and reconfigure Keyboard Manager carefully, avoiding remaps of Ctrl or Space.
