Contact a Microsoft support agent through the Windows 11 Get Help app, and allow remote access only if that verified agent initiates a Quick Assist session.
- Open Start, type Get Help, and open the app.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account if prompted.
- Enter a short description such as “Help clean temporary files and improve performance.”
- Review the suggested help, then select Contact Support.
- Choose Windows as the product, select the closest technical-support category, and select Confirm.
- Choose either:
- Chat with a support agent in your web browser, or
- Provide your phone number and receive a callback.
Contact methods vary by operating hours, issue, product, and subscription, so remote assistance might not always be offered. ^1^
If the agent offers remote assistance
Microsoft agents can use Quick Assist and provide a security code for the connection. Only enter a code supplied during a support interaction that you initiated directly with Microsoft. Quick Assist lets the agent see your screen; the agent can control the PC only after you separately approve that request. You can cancel control or leave the session at any time. ^2^
Do not permit access to an unsolicited caller, pop-up, email sender, or anyone claiming that your computer has been detected as infected.
Before the session:
- Close email, banking, password-manager, and other private windows.
- Save important work.
- Do not disclose passwords or verification codes.
- Read each permission prompt before approving it.
Windows 11 includes built-in cleanup tools:
- Open Start → Settings → System → Storage.
- Select Temporary files.
- Let Windows finish scanning.
- Review each category carefully.
- Select only items you no longer need, then choose Remove files.
- Return to Storage, open Storage Sense, and select Run Storage Sense now if desired. ^3^
For a broader review, open Settings → System → Storage → Cleanup recommendations. Windows groups suggestions into temporary files, large or unused files, cloud-synced files, and unused apps. ^4^
Caution: If cleanup offers Previous Windows installation or Windows.old, deleting it removes the ability to return to the previous Windows version and cannot be undone.
