SharePoint List Metadata From Word - People lookup issue

I created a SharePoint library with metadata field columns. Then I updated the library template dotx file to include quick part fields with the SharePoint metadata. Finally, I created a link on the homepage that downloads the template file for users to update on their local drives. Once, all of the information in the word file is updated they upload it to the SharePoint site which adds the metadata.

I am running into an issue with the person or group columns. The user selected in word is not correctly mapped to sharepoint. For instance, if I select John Doe in word, SharePoint would say Jane Doe. It consistently selects the same wrong user each time a new file is added and selects a different wrong user for each new person entered in word.

To see if it was a local library issue or a whole site issue I created a second list with one person or group field and uploaded the template document. The issue persists on both libraries.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

As a side note, it was working fine last week when I originally created the library but when I resumed testing on Monday the person or group columns stopped mapping correctly.
