The error message "Selected subscription cannot be used to purchase paid marketplace offers" typically occurs when you try to purchase a paid offer from the Azure Marketplace using a subscription that doesn't meet the requirements. To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

Ensure you have the correct subscription:

Double-check that you are using the correct Azure subscription. If you have multiple subscriptions, verify that you are selecting the appropriate one with the necessary permissions to purchase paid offers.

    Verify subscription eligibility:

Some Azure subscriptions may have limitations or restrictions that prevent the purchase of paid marketplace offers. Ensure that your subscription meets the requirements to purchase and consume paid offerings from the Azure Marketplace. For example, some offers may be limited to specific regions or subscription types.

    Check spending limits and quotas:

Confirm that your subscription doesn't have spending limits or quotas that would prevent purchasing paid marketplace offers. You can check the spending limits and quotas in the Azure portal by navigating to the "Cost Management + Billing" section and reviewing the settings for your subscription.

    Contact Azure support:

If you have verified that your subscription is eligible and doesn't have any spending limits or quotas, but you still encounter the error, it's recommended to reach out to Azure support for further assistance. They can help investigate the issue and provide specific guidance based on your subscription and marketplace offer.

By following these steps and ensuring that your subscription meets the requirements for purchasing paid marketplace offers, you should be able to resolve the error and proceed with the purchase.

I have the same issue as Sourav Roy

When I like to deploy a VM with Debian 11 I assume it is a free image.

I tried to add my credit card but the error still appears. Much worse Azure cost management shows that my Student Subscription was cancelled after I added the credit card.

I was not able to find a support contact for free. I'm not particularly eager to pay for billing support especially since I am a student.

However, I like to use my yearly sponsored student credit of 100 Euros.

For me the problem was that I registered my student subscription into my formal university account on Microsoft, instead of my personal account. This led to conflicts as I was working in the faculty directory or workspace, which I had no permissions in.

The solution was to sign out of Azure, sign in with my personal account, and walk through the student subscription again. It worked!
