How to hide status badge on "new" Teams icon in Taskbar?

Here's the taskbar icon for Teams this morning. The green checkmark is my status. It used to be a small, unobtrusive thing that was mildly helpful, but suddenly today with the "new" teams it's grown a lot. I have serious ADHD and one of my systems for keeping it from messing me up is to arrange notifications so that I'll see the important ones and the less-important ones don't distract me when I need to focus... End result is that any time I do see a notification in my task bar, it's something important that I need to look at right away. The problem I'm having is that this status icon is so big and so bold that any time I look near that area of the screen my brain registers it as a notification that I have to deal with, so I'm finding it hard to focus today. Is there any way to disable that badge just for Teams? Knowing what status I'm showing is almost never useful to me in Teams so I don't mind losing that - but I don't want to turn off all badges in the Taskbar because most of the badges are very helpful for me - it's just this one "HEY DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE ACTIVE" thing screaming at me from Teams that's a problem.

(The "old" Teams has this as an option in the General section of the settings, but "new" Teams doesn't seem to have it that I can find.)

    Hi @Christine Salter

This function is not available now in new Teams. Meanwhile, to get this feature more quickly, we recommend you give the feedback in Teams UserVoice. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future. Thanks for your understanding and support.

The "new" label on the icon was meant to be in place until the classic Teams was fully phased out. Now that the new Teams client is out there globally, in late June, Microsoft announced they would be removing the NEW label on the Teams icon. As of today, this has been implemented and devices will see this happening over time.

Below is the full announcement from Microsoft regarding this change:

This MC post is a reminder about the upcoming end of support for classic Microsoft Teams and also provides an update on plans to remove the NEW label from the new Teams applications.

How this will affect your organization

Starting July 1, 2024, classic Teams will become unsupported. Users still running classic Teams will experience in-app messages informing them that the client is no longer supported. These messages are dismissible but will reappear periodically.

NEW label removal from Teams app icon

Starting mid-July to late July 2024, we are removing the NEW label from the current new Teams application. The Teams application will be named Microsoft Teams with no additional labels and this change will occur for all platforms and users. We will not change the classic Teams application, which will continue to be called Microsoft Teams classic.User's image
