PSTN to Teams user: why do i need to send the ;ext=### as a suffix in SIP invite?

Dear members, This is a strange requirement from Microsoft to use ";ext=###" along with the DID number when calling in to the Teams user. If I have 100s of users with an extension number different from their phone numbers then I would have to setup a dial string rewrite rule for every single DID number being called on my SBC. Is there any workaround for this? Please advice. Regards,
