Hey, I want to change the SharePoint sharing setting in my organisation.

The current setting is "only people in your organisation" and right now anyone in the organisation can view the content of any site if they have the link.

If I change the global setting to "specific people" will it override the permission in all existing sites and people who have access to the existing site via the link will loos it?

or only new links and new sites will carry the new permission?

    Hi @RSiddiqui ,

Thank you for posting in this community.

If you change the global setting to “Specific people,” it will affect all sites, including existing ones.

People who previously had access to site content via shared links will not lose access immediately. Their existing permissions will remain intact. However, new links generated after the change will adhere to the new permission level (i.e., “Specific people”).

So, existing links will continue to work as before, but any newly created links will follow the updated sharing rules.
