I would like learn how to remove roaming on my new Windows 11 laptop. Most of the information I am finding is for the server side or Windows 10. I do not need or want a roaming profile, I do not have an IT group and I do not have access to a server. Roaming was apparently setup when the software was installed by me.

I contacted Microsoft support and the OneDrive groups says it is not something they can help with as it is not part of OneDrive. Next I contacted Windows support and Tech was finding the same misinformation that was I was when Googling the issue so we never got very far.

In Start Search type Gpedit.msc and hit the Enter key.

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles

Locate "Set roaming profile path for all users logging onto this computer"

Double-click on this setting and select "Disabled"

    Click "Apply" and then "OK"

    Reboot.

    Hi Ruth,

Thanks for your post. Before moving on, to narrow down the issue, can you please verify if you would like to disable my roaming profile in Windows 11? If so, please try the following method.

    1. Click on Start and select Administrative Tools.
    2. Select Group Policy Management from the list.
    3. Go to Computer Configuration and select Administrative Templates.
    4. Click on System User Profiles.
    5. Enable the Only allow local user profiles and Prevent Roaming Profile Changes from propagating to the server options.

    Best Regards,

    Ian Xue
