Recently we moved from using classic teams to new teams. Since then user presence on outlook 2016 and 2019 has stopped working. It works in outlook 365 though

    Hi @Ashish Amatya

    Welcome to our forum!

    Based on my testing, this seems to be the expected behavior. In my test environment, there is no presence information for users inside or outside the organization. To display user status, please use New Outlook, Outlook 365 or Outlook for Web.

    Folks, we ran into this issue as well. There was another post that I found that mentioned the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers] and [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IM Providers] keys.
    After updating to make sure that MSTeams is referenced in both places presence started working in Classic Outlook with New Teams.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IM Providers]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IM Providers\MsTeams]

    "FriendlyName"="Microsoft Teams"

    "GUID"="{88435F68-FFC1-445F-8EDF-EF78B84BA1C7}"

    "ProcessName"="ms-teams.exe"

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers]

    "DefaultIMApp"="MSTeams"

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers\MsTeams]

    "UpAndRunning"=dword:00000002

    If a user switches back to Classic Teams, [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IM Providers] updates to

    "DefaultIMApp"="Teams" and creates a previousIMApp ="MSTeams"

    I am assuming that the legacy apps (Communicator, Lync, Skype and Teams) all create/update the UpandRunning value. I noticed previously that there was a processID value as well that doesn't appear to do anything
