Hello, I am currently facing an issue that is about Window Server upgrade. Our main goal is upgrade to 2022 Standard Version from 2019 Standard Version with keep files and setting.

I downloaded the official version of Standard 2022 in the Microsoft 365 Management Center and installed it to enter the in-place upgrade, but I still cannot keep files, settings, etc. Are there any other methods or suggestions? Thanks!

    Hello,

    Here are some troubleshooting steps.

    1.Update Windows Server 2019:

Before attempting an upgrade, ensure that your Windows Server 2019 is fully updated with the latest Windows updates and service packs. This can help resolve compatibility issues that might be causing the problem.

    2.Check for Compatibility Issues:

Some software or drivers on your system might be incompatible with Windows Server 2022. Ensure that all your applications and drivers are compatible with the new operating system.

    3.Free Up Disk Space:

Make sure you have enough free disk space on your server. The upgrade process requires additional space for temporary files.

    4.Disable or Uninstall Antivirus Software:

Sometimes, antivirus or security software can interfere with the upgrade process. Try disabling antivirus software temporarily and see if the option becomes available.

    5.Check Group Policy Settings:

Group Policy settings can sometimes affect upgrade options. Make sure that there are no group policies in place that restrict certain upgrade options. You can use the Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) to review and modify policies if necessary.

    6.Check Event Viewer for Errors:

Review the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages or warnings related to the upgrade process. This can provide additional information about what might be causing the problem.

Please Note: Before proceeding with any changes, it's essential to create a backup of your important data and configurations to avoid data loss in case anything goes wrong during the upgrade process.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
