I got a new phone and can’t restore my account on the Microsoft Authenticator app—any advice on what I could try?

I recently got a new phone and am trying to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app. When I open the app on the new device, I’m unable to restore my account and access my saved authentication codes. I don’t see an option to recover from backup, even though I thought I had a backup enabled on my previous phone.

Additional Details:

  • I was previously using Microsoft Authenticator on my old phone, where I had backups enabled.
  • I am signed in with the same Microsoft account on my new device.
  • I don’t have any backup codes saved elsewhere.
  • I tried logging in on the Microsoft Support website but couldn’t find a solution that worked.

What I Need Help With: How can I restore my authenticator settings on my new phone, or is there another way to recover my account without the original authentication codes?

    Hello,

The process for recovering account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator differs between iOS and Android. Please consult the official documentation for detailed instructions:

Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator - Microsoft Support

If you don't see Restore from backup or Begin recovery when opening Authenticator, you will need to remove or sign out of all accounts to restore your account credentials. Learn how.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you can seek assistance from an online support agent. Here’s how to get in touch:

Hacked Microsoft account with altered recovery email. - Microsoft Community
