I have Surface Laptop 3 and Dell UltraSharp U3818DW (38", 3840 x 1600 px).

When connecting with Wireless display adapter V2, the maximum resolution I can configure is 1920x1080. I configured it as an extended monitor (not dupicated). Additionally, the external screen flickers sometimes

I have the newest drivers

The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter only supports 1080p. There are some 4K
Miracast adapters listed on Amazon - read the reviews (I have no personal
    experience with them).

    Hi Anonymous10843,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. We apologize for the inconvenience  this has caused you.

By the way, did the issue happen after update? Or is this the first time you extended your Surface display to an external monitor?

I assumed you it was working just fine before and now, you cannot maximize the screen resolution no more than 1920 x 1080. If that's the case, what I highly suggest is to clear the display cache first and unplug/re-plug the wireless display adapter and see if the issue get fixed.

To clear the display cache, kindly check this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023496/surface-troubleshoot-connecting-to-a-second-screen. Follow Solution # 5 for instruction.

After clearing the display cache, I would like you to remove the monitors that were previously recognized by your Surface device.

    Open Device Manager

    Expand Monitors

If what appears is just the Surface Panel Filter, then, please click theView Tab options available from the top and select "Show Hidden Devices". If the previous monitors attached to your Surface show up, right-click on it and select uninstall device if it's not grayed out. If it's grayed out, then kindly :

    Expand Network Adapter

Right-click on the Wireless Display Adapter V2and select Properties. Then, choose "Driver" and check if the option to rollback the driver is not grayed out, if it isn't grayed out, this simply means that the driver of that wireless adapter was recently updated and this might be the cause why the issue exists and rolling back to the previous driver would be the best solution to get it fixed.

If it's grayed out, this means that there were no recent driver updates intended for the wireless display adapter and you have to uninstall it instead ,so kindly select uninstall device and restart your computer to reinstall the driver back automatically.

After restarting, check if you can extend your Surface device display to it's best resolution on the external monitor.

If this helps, please let our Community know by marking this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if you need further assistance and please let us know the kind of display adapter you're using.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest_Z
