hi

read this information about defender:

·                         if you are using microsoft security essentials avg norton mcafee avira etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default

microsoft security essentials has its own version of windows defender

and other anti-virus programs use their own particular type of spyware and malware application scanner

it is nothing to worry about and is the default action that is designed for them to do

if the above does not apply to your machine read the information at the below link on how to either disable the windows defender service in vista or make it automatic startup to enable it

http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microsoft/vista/disable-windows-defender-service-in-windows-server-2008-or-vista/

and here is the method to remove it from startup in vista

http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microsoft/vista/remove-windows-defender-from-vista-system-startup/

and here is how you would normally enable or disable windows defender in vista from within defenders own tools and options

http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microsoft/vista/disable-windows-defender-for-microsoft-vista/

and read this microsoft information:

    Error message when you run Windows Defender: "Error Code 0x800106ba"

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931849

and if you need to change startup programs read this information about the other methods to do that without using defender

using msconfig read this tutorial;

How to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista

Here is how to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista to disable some of the unnecessary programs that automatically load on start-up

http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.html

and also try this program;

This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more

    You will get a faster, more detailed response if you will provide the missing details. What version of IE? What website? What ActiveX Control are you trying to install? What security software do you have installed that might possibly be preventing the install? If you get any error messages please quote them exactly, without paraphrasing.
