Windows Developer VM or images

I changed job this spring. I am a software tester, I used to use virtualbox, but want to use HyperV if it does in fact function. I'm on win11 Enterprisey version, I have a MSDN/visual studio.

I always used to download the 1-2 month demo images for testing software on, but these developer-ready VM VHD images are no longer published. I am going to assume that a permanent decision to stop these was made, and want to know why documentation for people on a MSDN subscription no longer documents a working route.

I am just plain unable to find any answered questions that show that using Hyper-V on Windows 11 will be easy somehow. Clues please. HyperV starts the Windows 11 installer I grabbed off of https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/evalcenter/download-windows-11-enterprise and then decides it just will not install due to incompatibility. There is no easy to find documentation explaining working settings I need to tweak or choose Gen1/Gen2 etc in VShere, after trying a few things, still no joy. My MSDN sub does not include platform license keys these days, so I will have to ask IT for MLP keys I guess or find if we have an MLP server I guess. Those time-bombed images were so helpful before.

What is the current new suggested route people are using?

Windows for home | Windows 11 | Install and upgrade

What browser do you use? Please try Edge in In-Private mode.

I would use that platform if the platform actually allowed me to post a question - it's on the fritz,

    1. it lets me set up an account. in the account setup it forces me to subscribe to educational emails, when all I want to do is accept the terms and conditions, someone screwed up the signup flow CSS maybe?
    2. but when i post a question "Learn" says it hit an unexpected error -
    3. after 5 minutes of solving the captcha - which is broken by the way, it tries again to submit my question and does not want to submit.

I hit a total of 3 errors in my out of box experience there, so I have to ask myself what am I learning, will try again after a tea-break, not the kind of help I usually do get I have to say, usually these things work fine.

    Hi Conrad,

My name is Igor, it's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll try to help you. I am merely a fellow user trying to provide insight and information that may be helpful to others. I answer during my free time, so some delays are possible.

It is more effective to ask such questions at Q&A forum https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/index....

It is oriented to programmers, admins and corporate users, and this forum - to home users so local experts may have no corresponding knowledge, sorry.
