Laptop, Windows 11 all up to date.

Updates have always taken a long time to download.

Last security update took 30 to 60 minutes to get to 24% installing.

Then screen changed to 'No Bootable Device'

No actions are available except Ctrl Alt Delete gives a blank screen for a couple of seconds then back to the above.

Any help Please.

Hi,

I'm glad it worked. The issue was internal; perhaps it wasn't registered in Windows. In that case, it might have been an isolated incident. However, consider performing preventative maintenance on your laptop due to dirt causing poor contact.

If my answer was helpful, please confirm or not.

Thanks

Hi ,

This could be a physical problem; the SSD or hard drive stopped being recognized. Can you tell me the laptop model?

Do the following: turn off the laptop, wait 1 minute without the charger connected, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then connect it to power and turn it on again and see if it boots.

If you don't provide this information, we'll have to try accessing the BIOS to see if the SSD drive is being recognized.

Give feedback if the information was useful or not.

Thanks

Pressed power button and it rebooted as normal!?

    Now operating as normal???

Can I locate the fault in one of the logs....somewhere?

Thank you very much so far.

It seems like your laptop is encountering a critical issue where it cannot find a bootable device after a recent update. Here are some detailed steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:
      • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. This is usually done by pressing a specific key (like F2, F10, or DEL) immediately after powering on the device.
      • Once in the BIOS, look for the Boot menu. Ensure that your hard drive is recognized and set as the primary boot device. If it’s not listed, there may be a hardware issue.
    2. Run Startup Repair:
      • If you have a Windows installation media (USB or DVD), insert it and boot from it. You may need to change the boot order in BIOS to do this.
      • Select your language preferences and click on "Repair your computer".
      • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair. This tool will attempt to fix any issues preventing Windows from starting.
    3. Check Hardware Connections:
      • If you are comfortable doing so, you can open your laptop to check if the hard drive is properly connected. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause the "No Bootable Device" error.
      • Ensure that the hard drive is securely connected to the motherboard.
    4. Use Recovery Options:
      • If you can access the recovery options, you can try restoring your system to a previous restore point.
      • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore, and follow the prompts to restore your system to a time before the update.
    5. Reset or Reinstall Windows:
      • If none of the above steps work, you may need to consider resetting Windows. You can do this from the recovery options by selecting Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
      • Choose whether to keep your files or remove everything, and follow the prompts to reinstall Windows. Make sure to back up your data if possible before proceeding with this option.
    6. Seek Professional Help:
      • If the issue persists after trying these steps, it may indicate a more serious hardware issue. Consulting with a professional technician could provide further insights and solutions.

These steps should help you diagnose and potentially fix the "No Bootable Device" issue. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask!
