Follow these steps in order on the same PC where Microsoft 365 is installed:
- Confirm the correct account and subscription status
- Close all Office apps.
- Go to the Microsoft account Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
- Sign in with the @comcast.net account used to purchase Microsoft 365.
- Under Subscriptions (and Cancelled subscriptions), verify that the Microsoft 365 subscription is listed as active, not expired or cancelled.
- If it shows as expired or cancelled, renew it following the steps in Renew Microsoft 365 Family, then restart Word and check activation again.
- Make sure Word is signed in with the same account
- Open Word.
- Go to File → Account.
- Under User Information and Product Information, ensure the signed-in account matches the @comcast.net account that owns the subscription.
- If a different account is shown, sign out, then sign back in with the correct account and select Update license (or similar) if available.
- Run the Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter
- On Windows 10 or later, run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for activation:
- If still not activating, fully reinstall Office
If activation still fails after the troubleshooter:
- If the subscription itself is in trouble (billing issue)
- If, instead of “Unlicensed Product”, a banner like “ACCOUNT NOTICE. We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription and need your help to fix it.” appears, this usually indicates a payment or billing problem (expired or declined card, suspended subscription).
- In that case, fix the payment method and renew/restore the subscription from the Subscriptions page, then restart Office.
If none of these steps resolve the issue and the subscription is confirmed active under the correct account, contact Microsoft support and reference that all standard activation and reinstall steps from the activation error articles have already been completed.
