If you have the same computer you were previously using at your job, your copy of Windows was activated by your company. Since you're no longer at the company, you will be unable to maintain your activation. Now you'll have to purchase a new copy of Windows and activate that with its own license.

In general, people do not realize: When you get a computer from work or school, what you're really getting is the hardware. The software belongs to someone else.

    Hi,

Where did you purchase the Windows 11 Pro license? Was it bought from Microsoft, a third-party seller, or did it come preinstalled on your computer?

In the search bar, type 'Command Prompt' and run it as administrator.

Then, copy and paste the command below and press Enter. A pop-up will appear; please share a screenshot of that window.

    slmgr.vbs /dlv

Error code 0xC004F034 means the product key currently on the device is invalid or does not match the installed Windows edition.

Because this is a used work PC, it likely had a volume license or a key tied to your organization that is no longer valid for personal use. That’s why Windows 11 Pro shows as installed but cannot activate.

To resolve this on a personal, non‑work machine:

    1. Open Start > Settings > System > Activation.
    2. If you have your own valid Windows 11 Pro (or Windows 10 Pro that’s eligible) key, select Change product key, enter the 25‑character key, and follow the prompts.
    3. If you do not have a valid key, select Go to Microsoft Store on the same page and purchase a genuine Windows license for this PC, then activation will complete automatically.
    4. If this PC is still managed by your old organization and should be using their license, contact the organization’s IT support so they can activate it via their Key Management Service (KMS) or provide the correct key.

If activation still fails after entering a known‑good key, run the Activation troubleshooter:

    1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
    2. Select Troubleshoot and follow the on‑screen steps.

If the error code changes after troubleshooting, use the new code to follow the corresponding guidance in the activation‑errors article.
