System Data Source Plug-ins
Digital content can be retrieved from a file, a database, a distribution stream, a live feed, or other source. You can use a data source plug-in in conjunction with an appropriate media parser plug-in to read content from the data source. Windows Media Services includes the following plug-ins to read from a network, a file, or an encoder.
| Plug-in | Description |
| WMS HTTP Download Data Source | Enables a Windows Media server to access playlist files from a Web server. |
| WMS Push Data Source | Enables push distribution of a stream from an encoder to a Windows Media server. |
| WMS Network Data Source | Enables a Windows Media server to pull a distribution stream from an upstream server or encoder. The properties of this plug-in can be specified programmatically. For more information, see WMS Network Data Source Plug-in Properties. |
| WMS File Data Source | Enables the Windows Media server to access playlist and media files that are stored on a FAT, FAT32, NTFS, or CIFS file system. |
