Hello
Please i need your help on this issue.
We recently hired an ex-employee who used to be in our systems and synced to Azure AD a little short of one year ago.
The domain user account was reactivated and email was re-setup (Exchange On-Prem) and it appears everything from H-AAD Sync to O365 licensing has successfully pushed through. The user can login and access everything as normal, but the issue we are seeing now is that in Microsoft Teams when searching for "People" this user does not appear as someone in "People". The user can still be messaged via Teams if creating a chat message directly to their email. Other new hire users appear in the "People" list when searching for their names, but not this user.
Once manually sending a message to this user, they will appear in the Organization Structure, but still not someone under "People". It's almost as if Teams has its own copy of some user address list for "People" in the organization.
We've verified the user is in all of the same groups as other employees. They have a valid and working email as well as proper SMTP and SIP addresses in Exchange. We've made small changes here and there and have waited several days incase there were syncing issues on Microsoft's backend, all to no avail. Local Teams clients have been reinstalled and had their Teams caches removed as well to no avail.
We've also confirmed no Information Barriers have been set.
Is there anything else that can be done to get this user to appear in a Microsoft Teams search or show up as "People" in Teams?

    Hi @IBN

Is it the same behavior on the web client?

To solve this problem, just follow these few steps below.

    1. In Teams admin center.
    2. Teams settings.
    3. Roll down until you find "Search by name" and turn on.

It may take a few hours for this change to take effect. For more details about search people in Teams, you could refer to this link's table.

For us this turned out to be because when re-onboarding a re-hire, we neglected to change his mailbox from Shared back to User.

    Hi,

I just want to point out that I've just had the exact same issue in our organization. An ex-employee who was re-hired, and I checked the above solutions proposed in this post but none of it worked for me.

I end up checking the users mailbox in Exchange Online and find that the option Hide from global address list (GAL) is set to Yes (Hide). See the below picture.

    EDIT:
I found the user account was syncing from our legacy AD so I was not able to change the setting directly from Exchange Online but had to change this setting in our on-prem AD.

Connected to AD and changed the users attribute msExchHideFromAddressLists from TRUE to FALSE. See below picture.

Hi there, I got the similar case, that we try to search the approvers in our customize Teams approval, and it doesn't work there. However, there is no impact to the Teams build-in approval request. Thanks~
