Hello,

Currently my application use SQL Express edition and i want to upgrade to standard edition.

How we can migrate from express to standard edition without losings any data?

Hi @Handian Sudianto

SQL Server Setup supports edition upgrade among various editions of SQL Server.

To upgrade an existing instance of SQL Server to a different edition, from the SQL Server Installation Center select Maintenance, and then select Edition Upgrade.

if the upgrade from SQL Server Installation so we cant install the new SQL Server on different server?

If you want to migrate your data from an Express instance on one machine to Standard Edition on another machine, you install Standard Edition on the new server. Then you can copy the database with BACKUP/RESTORE. That is, you backup the databases on the old server, and then you restore the backups on the new server.

Since you said you wanted to upgrade, Cosmog made the reasonable assumption that you wanted to upgrade your current instance to Standard Edition.
