Is @Mention feature in comments supported by SharePoint Server 2019?

Hi We have a site where we store documents that uses SharePoint Server 2019. I cannot get the @Mention ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/modern-comments-in-word-53d8b54e-5036-40f8-9a09-3271dea169ba) feature to work. Have tried open the file in Word and open Word online, nothing works. If I download the Word document, put it a folder that instead syncs with OneDrive, and then open it in Word, I am able to use the @Mention feature. Could this be that the feature is not supported by SharePoint Server 2019? If yes, is there any way to get it working without changing to another version of SharePoint? If no, other suggestions to fix it?

    Hi @NCMD

Unfortunately, as the article you provided says, this feature is only available in word in Microsoft 365. This is because the @mention function needs to obtain the user's email address, and the user account information of the Microsoft 365 series of products is stored in Microsoft Entra in the cloud for use by products in the series. SharePoint server uses Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) to store user information. This product is independent from Office products, so this function cannot be used. According to the information I found, you can try doing Microsoft Entra hybrid join.
