Azure Dev Box - Dev Pool status unknown or checks failed

While following the quickstart for Azure Dev Box,
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/azure/dev-box/quickstart-configure-dev-box-service
we are stuck when creating a dev box pool. The status of the created pool is either 'Status unknown' or 'Checks failed', and no indication found as to what is causing this.

The automated answer mentions the below, but there is not "Health" tab. Recreating the dev box pool with other network or image also results in the same "checks failed" status.

The status of the dev box pool being 'Status unknown' or 'Checks failed' indicates that the image and network configuration of the dev boxes in the pool did not pass validation criteria. The Azure portal runs health checks to ensure that the image and network pass the validation criteria for dev boxes. You can check the health status of the dev box pool by navigating to the dev box pool in the Azure portal and selecting the "Health" tab. This tab displays the health status of the dev box pool and any issues that need to be resolved. You can also try deleting the dev box pool and creating a new one with a different network connection or image.

I'm mainly using the resources in the West Europe region.

Note: there seems to be no suitable 'Tag' for this question.

    I have tried reproducing the issue, But I got succeeded creating Dev Box Pool. I followed the same steps in the link that you have provided. Below is the screenshot for your reference.

    Can you please re check once that you have all the below prerequisites to create.

    • An Azure account with an active subscription. If you don't have an Azure subscription, create a free account before you begin.
    • Owner or Contributor role on an Azure subscription or resource group.
    • Microsoft Entra ID. Your organization must use Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access management.
    • Microsoft Intune. Your organization must use Microsoft Intune for device management.
    • User licenses. To use Dev Box, each user must be licensed for Windows 11 Enterprise or Windows 10 Enterprise, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID P1. These licenses are available independently and are included in the following subscriptions: Microsoft 365 F3 Microsoft 365 E3, Microsoft 365 E5 Microsoft 365 A3, Microsoft 365 A5 Microsoft 365 Business Premium Microsoft 365 Education Student Use Benefit
    • If your organization routes egress traffic through a firewall, open the appropriate ports. For more information, see Network requirements.

    I ran into this error when using Intune as provided by another subscription.

    I was able to debug a bit further by creating a Network Connection, which surfaced an issue about Intune (ResourceAvailabilityCheckNoIntuneReaderRoleError). I was then able to purchase a standalone 'Microsoft Intune Plan 1' subscription here (Plan 1) and this error went away.

    I'm not sure if that is a bug with how Dev Center checks for Intune access, but I hope that helps you in the mean time.
