I am trying to format font and/or background for the cells in one column based on the content of the associated cell in another column. I can get it to work if I do it cell by cell but have no desire to set of the conditions individually for each cell. Screenshot 2024-07-08 103719.png

I set of the conditions pictured, but this does not work. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The range of cells in the formula must be "compatible" with the range of cells the formula is applied to. The text value must be in quotes.
Change the formula in the first rule from
=$D:$D=Rare
to
=$D$3:$D$1175="Rare"
Make similar changes to the other rules.

As I posted to Barry Schwarz's suggestion, it didn't work. After fiddling around, I'm not sure what I did exactly but I got it working. I am still testing for any additional problems.
I do have a question, though. Can you not select entire columns for conditional formatting?
