Hi MS.

We have a request from a user that want to be able to delete any message in channels that they are owner of in Teams.

They use Teams as case management and want to delete the whole case(tread), when it is completed due to GDPR. Right now, they can only remove own content or delete the channel.

Best Regards,

Johan

    Hi @JohanGR

Could you please tell me if you want to allow the channel owner to delete the entire channel's messages?

In Microsoft Teams, channel owners can delete all messages in a channel, but it should be noted that this process is manual and requires deleting messages one by one. Teams does not provide a one-click function to delete all messages in a channel, as this may lead to the loss of important information.

    Here are the specific steps:

    • Open your Teams app and go to the corresponding channel.
    • Find the message you want to delete.
    • Click on the more options next to the message (usually a three-dot icon).
    • Select Delete this message in the drop-down menu.

Please note that once a message is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Therefore, before deleting any message, make sure you really want to delete it.

If you want to delete the entire channel and all associated conversation history, you can choose to delete the entire channel. This will delete the channel and all messages in the channel, but please note that this will also delete everything in the channel, including files, meeting records, etc.

You can enable this as part of the Messaging policy settings, details are in this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/messaging-policies-in-teams#messaging-policy-settings
