I cannot log into the Azure portal. I keep getting stuck at more information required

I can see the login status as interrupted and the error code is 50074.

I ran a migration tool to upgrade my tenant away from legay MFA to the new MFA and I enabled MFA on my user, but I am still getting the same issue.

I understand that you are experiencing a login issue related to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) after attempting to upgrade from a legacy MFA system to a new MFA system.

The error code 50074 indicates that authentication is required and that the user did not pass the MFA challenge.

Microsoft Employee Azure tenants are being enforced with multi-factor authentication (MFA) policy for all users and resources.

Could you please check the status of the Multi-Factor Authentication for Microsoft partners and vendors conditional access policy?

To resolve this issue, you may want to exclude certain users from the conditional access policy.

Go to Policies in Microsoft Azure.
Look for the policy named "Multi-Factor Authentication for Microsoft partners and vendors."
Update the policy to exclude the impacted users.

Hi Navya,

I don't think I have Conditional Access because I just have the free tier Entra ID with the standard security defaults enabled. Is that policy at the subscription level? I don't believe I see it in the list of policies on my subscriptions. My user is a personal Microsoft Account @outlook.com and is the global admin of my tenant and subscription

Thank you for following up on this!

The Multi-Factor Authentication policy for Microsoft partners and vendors applies to Microsoft employees' tenants, not to personal accounts.

Based on the information you provided, I understand that security defaults are enabled in your tenant. Have you registered your personal account in the Microsoft Authenticator app?

Hi Navya,

My user is registered with MS Authenticator app and that log in flow is presented during signing. However, I still get stuck at the more information required screen. I have not resolved this issue.

I have discovered a workaround, on the more information required screen. If instead of next, I press "use a different account", and then I don't click my username, but click "Use another account" again and type in my username a second time, I get logged in with those steps.

Thank you for your update and for sharing the workaround you discovered. I appreciate your patience as we work through this issue. It's great to hear that you can log in by using the "Use another account" option.

Can you clear the cache and cookies? If the issue still persists, could you please re-register MFA? This will delete the existing MFA, and you will then need to set up a new MFA authentication method upon your next sign-in.

If you encounter any issues while performing this operation, try creating a user account and assigning it the global administrator role. Then, use the 'Require re-register MFA' option with this new account for your default user.
