I keep getting the error messages from action center that java update client checker has stopped working. The solution available is to update java to the latest version, but I'm using java 6 update 20 which is the latest version installed.

    Hello zfc89,

I suggest you run the setup.exe file by right click and select, "Run as Administrator" and try to install the Java update again.

The error you are receiving is: c0000005

This is an Access violation error, so try and see if the elevated privilege helps.

Please reply back with an update.

    Thanks,

    Marilyn

    Thank you for your reply.

I have uninstalled the previous java 6 update 20 and updated to the latest version, java 6 update 21. I ran the jxpiinstall.exe installation file as administrator.

However, I still need to wait some days to see whether the problem still persist.

    Hi zfc89,

Put the computer in Clean Boot state and check if the issue persists.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. If yes, you may have to contact the program manufacturer for any updates or uninstall and re-install the program.

Refer the following Microsoft KB article for more information on how to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 7 in the above KB article.
