What is VMI331 Stimnt and can I delete it or is it necessary for Windows 8?  Some sites say it is spyware others say it is ok.  Thanks!

On my laptop, this is a program that used to be "Lenovo EasyCamera" in previous editions of Windows. You can stop it running as a background process or remove it from Startup programs and the Camera app built into Windows will still function.

The files for it should live in "C:\Program Files (x86)\USB Camera" if they need to be removed.

    Hello,

I can't find vm331_sti.exe in my computer but vm331sti.exe from Vimicro. It's in the autostart list and has something to do with the camera. It was installed from the beginning on my new computer. Is this something I have to do anything with? Can I inactive it from the autostart list?

    Thanks in advance,

    Carina Lindberg

    Hi,

vm331_sti.exe is a VM331 StiMnt belonging to VM331 StiMnt from Vimicro Non-system processes like vm331_sti.exe originate from software you installed on your system. Since most applications store data in your system's registry, is likely that your registry has suffered fragmentation and accumulated invalid entries which can affect your PC's performance.

So, you can go ahead and delete it.

You should also run a scan of the computer using the antivirus program installed on your computer.

You can also use Microsoft safety scanner.

A fast way to check for viruses is to use an online scanner, such as the Microsoft Safety Scanner. The scanner is a free online service that helps you identify and remove viruses, clean up your hard disk, and generally improve your computer's performance.

To run the Microsoft Safety Scanner:

    a. Go to the Microsoft Safety Scanner webpage to download the scanner.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

    b. Click Download Now, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

    Hope the above information helps.
