control remote switch from vb.net visual basic application via wifi

in windows 10 pc environment I want my vb.net app to control remote switch(es) over wifi lan. I hope to establish a dialogue to discuss what components and APIs would be involved in this project. I haven't used this forum, so I'm not sure where to view replies.
