Keys not working

My escape key, F5, and F6 keys have stopped working on my laptop. I’m pretty sure it’s not a soft wear issue and I’m not sure how to fix it. For a few weeks they would work sometimes, but now don’t work at all.

Since the on-screen keyboard doesn’t recognize the keys either, it’s probably a software or driver issue. Try updating your keyboard drivers in Device Manager and make sure Windows is up-to-date.

If that doesn’t fix it, you might need to consider a physical repair or keyboard replacement.

    Hello,

If only a few keys don't work, this is typically hardware issue.

Underneath the keyboard, there is a circuit board with numerous signal tracks. Cracks in the tracks, dust or debris buildup, or corrosion can disrupt the signal flow.

Does the esc key work from the on-screen keyboard?

    Hello, this is Emily.

The onscreen keyboard doesn't have F keys, but you can test with a different keyboard via USB or Bluetooth. If the alternative keyboard works, it's certain that the issue is hardware-related.

You can try to clean the keyboard, but if it is cracks or corrosion, cleaning will not help unfortunately. You need hardware repair or replacement.

To help me figure out what's going on, could you check if the on-screen keyboard works?

You can quickly open it by pressing Windows + Ctrl + O. That’ll let you see if the keys are responding.

Let me know what you find.
