Hello, I've been looking for an article that explains how to delete permissions for an external user who only had access to certain files on SharePoint, and it was part of a group

I can't find clear instructions on how to do it and I can't figure out by myself, I have owner access

I attached a picture, I need to delete Caroline, and on the acctions drop down is not giving me option to delete

But I deleted her as a user from the Admin center

Thank you

    Dear Maricuta,

    Nice to meet you!

Thank you for reaching out regarding the issue with removing an external user’s access from your SharePoint files.

Based on your description, it sounds like the user (Caroline) was part of a group and has already been removed from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center but still appears in the SharePoint permissions list without an option to delete.

I'd suggest trying the following steps:

    1. Open the SharePoint Site
Navigate to the SharePoint site where the files are located.
    2. Access Site Permissions
Click the Gear icon in the top-right corner > Site permissions or Site settings > Advanced permissions settings.
    3. Check Group Membership
If Caroline was part of a group (e.g., “Visitors” or “Members”), click into that group and remove her if she still appears.

    1. Remove Direct Access  Go to the document library or specific file.
      • Click the three dots (…) next to the file > Manage access
      • Under Direct Access, if Caroline is listed, click the dropdown next to her name and select Stop sharing or Remove.
    2. Disable Sharing Links
      • In the Manage access panel, check under Links giving access
      • Remove any links that may still grant her access.
    3. Allow Time for Sync
Changes made in the Admin Center may take a few minutes to reflect in SharePoint. Please refresh the page after a short wait.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please let us know if you have any further questions or if there’s anything else I can assist you with. I'm happy to help!

    Warm Regards,
