Hi!

I am a computer tech and the last week I have had at least 10 clients with all different desktop and laptop computers have complained that their keyboards are not working. After restarting and uninstalling the driver form device manager temporally fixes the issue. They all are running Windows 11. Any help would be great!

When Microsoft released the October update, there was a bug in that update that caused USB devices like a mouse and keyboard to not work in the recovery environment, they then released an out of band update KB5070773 to resolve that bug, and many people are reporting their keyboard fails in Windows after installing that our of band update, so I think that is the root of the problem, it is not safe to uninstall that out of band update, the best option is to report this on the Feedback Hub app so their Windows developers can investigate this and provide a patch for this keyboard problem.

After many technical solution attempts to get the keyboard to work at login - the only way I could find to get the keyboard to work at login was to push F2 frantically at startup and go into bios. Then set bios to default settings, save and exit and the system boots and the keyboard works at log in. I contacted Microsoft support and this is the message I got:

"Thanks for clarifying — that’s an important detail. If your keyboard functions in BIOS but not at the Windows login screen, it strongly indicates that the issue lies within Windows itself. Yes, Microsoft is aware of the widespread keyboard problem following recent Windows 11 updates, and we are actively working on a fix." So they are aware of the problem and hopefully we will get a fix for it. Hopefully...

It sounds like you are encountering a common issue with keyboard functionality on Windows 11. Given that restarting and uninstalling the driver temporarily resolves the problem, it may be related to a driver issue or a recent Windows update. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Update Drivers: Ensure that all drivers, especially the keyboard drivers, are up to date. You can do this through Device Manager by right-clicking on the keyboard device and selecting "Update driver."
    2. Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, Microsoft releases updates that can fix bugs related to hardware. Make sure that all Windows updates are installed.
    3. Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Drivers: Since you mentioned that uninstalling the driver temporarily fixes the issue, consider fully uninstalling the keyboard driver and then restarting the computer to allow Windows to reinstall it automatically.
    4. Use Device Manager: If the issue persists, you can try using Device Manager to uninstall the keyboard device. After uninstalling, restart the computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
    5. Registry Check: In some cases, registry settings may affect keyboard functionality. Ensure that there are no incorrect settings in the registry that could be causing the issue.
    6. Hardware Check: If possible, test the keyboards on another computer to rule out hardware failure.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to check for any specific known issues related to Windows 11 that could be causing this behavior.
