Follow these steps to get the scanner part of the HP DeskJet 2920 All‑in‑One working with the HP ProDesk 600 G3.

    1. Verify the printer/scanner is correctly connected
    • If using USB: Make sure the USB cable is firmly plugged into both the HP DeskJet 2920 and the HP ProDesk 600 G3, and that the printer is powered on.
    • If using Wi‑Fi/network: Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to the same network/SSID as the PC.
    1. Check that Windows detects the device
    • Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Confirm the HP DeskJet 2920 appears in the list.
    • If it does not appear, select Add device (or Add a printer or scanner) and wait while Windows searches. When the printer appears, select Add device to install it.
    1. If the scanner is part of the All‑in‑One but only shows as a printer
    • In Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the HP DeskJet 2920.
    • If Windows also detects it as a scanner, Scanner settings will be listed in the printer’s page. If this is present, the scanner is installed.
    • If Scanner settings is not listed, remove the device, then add it again:
      • Select the printer, choose Remove, then confirm.
      • Select Add device (or Add a printer or scanner) again and let Windows reinstall it.
    1. If using it as a network/wireless scanner
    • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Select Add device next to Add printer or scanner.
    • Wait for Windows to find the HP DeskJet 2920 on the network, then select Add device next to it.
    • If it is not found, select Add a new device manually (or The printer that I want isn’t listed) and follow the wizard to add it by network address.
    1. Confirm the scanner is installed
    • With the printer powered on, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Verify the device is listed. For an All‑in‑One, open its entry and check for Scanner settings to confirm scanner support.

If the device still will not scan after these steps, install or update the HP driver/software for the DeskJet 2920 from HP’s support site, then repeat the steps above to add the printer/scanner again.

    Hello Amani,

On the HP DeskJet 2920, scanning requires the full driver package rather than just the basic print driver that Windows often installs automatically. If the printer is detected and printing works but the scanner does not, it usually means the HP Smart app or the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers are missing. You should download the latest package directly from HP’s support site for the DeskJet 2920, install it, and then test scanning through HP Smart or Windows Fax and Scan. Also confirm that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running by checking services.msc, since that service is required for scanner communication. If the device still fails to connect, remove the printer completely from Devices and Printers, reboot, and reinstall using the HP installer rather than Windows Update. This ensures the TWAIN/WIA drivers are correctly registered and the scanner is accessible.
