My assignment wouldn't submit

I tried multiple times to submit my assignment and it wouldn't let me. The 'turn in' button just kept loading and didn't work. As a result, when my work finally submitted it showed that I submitted my work late and now my teacher has capped my grade. I find this unfair and no fault of my own. I need evidence that I submitted my work on time. Someone please help me.

Hi @MB,

Thank you for your time sharing your experience and I’m really sorry for the trouble and frustration this situation has caused you.

I understand why you feel this is unfair since the submission issue was technical and outside your control. Based on your sharing, since you mentioned that "it showed that I submitted my work late", the high possibility that the Teams Assignment recorded your submission as "Turn in late". In this case the best evidence you can gather are from your side:

  • Look for anything like screenshots/screen recordings showing the issue:
    • The assignment page with the "Turn in" button loading
    • Error messages or spinning/loading statue
    • Your computer clock/date at that time
  • Check your browser history for the assignment platform before the deadline time and take screenshots showing the date/time you accessed the submission page and have tried multiple attempts.
  • You can also ask your teacher/IT department to check the logs which may be able to see something like login times, upload attempts and failed submission attempts, etc. They will be the strong evidence to prove that you have done you work and tried submitting it on time.

To prevent this situation from happening in the future, I highly suggest that if you have problems when submitting, it's better to inform your teacher immediately before trying another submission attempt so your teacher could acknowledge the issue on time, and you highly would not be deducted due to late submission.

Hope you can successfully handle this matter. If you have any concerns or questions in the future, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Not only will I be happy to assist you, but all moderators in the Q&A forum will also do their best to provide support and guidance.

Wishing you a wonderful day ahead.

Teams Assignments does not provide a way for students to generate system logs or timestamp evidence themselves beyond what is shown in the assignment status and submission time. The platform records when an assignment is actually received by the service; if the Turn in button was still “loading” and had not completed, it is treated as not yet submitted.

The only concrete actions available are:

    1. Open the assignment in Teams and check the current status and timestamp shown there (for example, whether it shows as Turned in, Turn in late, or Not turned in). This is the same information your educator sees.
    2. Explain to the educator what happened (that the Turn in button kept loading and did not complete until after the deadline) and ask if they are willing to adjust the grade based on that explanation.
    3. If the educator is open to it, they can also:
      • Review the assignment timeline and turn‑in settings, and
      • If needed, update how long they will accept turn‑ins so that late submissions can still be accepted or revised. This is done from the assignment’s More options > Edit > Edit assignment timeline.

There is no documented feature in the provided material that allows retroactive proof that a submission attempt started before the due time; only the completed submission time is stored and used for “late” status.
