Hello,

I’m trying to install the ChatGPT add-in for PowerPoint (or any other add-in), but PowerPoint shows:

Something went wrong Please try again later.

Error code: 0x80070422

Correlation Id: ff000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

Timestamp: 2026-05-25T19:21:43.000Z

Message: An unexpected error occurred. Tag: 7q6ca Code: 2147943458

I’ve already tried restarting PowerPoint and my PC.

How can I fix this?

    Hi tommy, welcome in community

Here are some steps you can try to fix the issue:

    1. Clear stored credentials
    • Press Win + S and type Credential Manager
    • Open Windows Credentials
    • Remove any entries related to MicrosoftOffice or MicrosoftAccount
    • Restart your PC and try again
    1. Repair Office apps
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps
    • Search for Microsoft Office
    • Click Modify, then choose Repair

This process reinstalls missing or corrupted components that may prevent authentication or synchronization with your Microsoft account.

    Let me know

    Elvis

Error 0x80070422 is a generic failure when Office tries to load or install an add-in. Use the following steps to troubleshoot and reload the add-in.

    1. Close PowerPoint completely
    • Exit all Office apps (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Make sure no Office processes are running in Task Manager.
    1. Clear cached add-in information and reload
    • Close PowerPoint.
    • Delete the Office Web Extensions cache folder:
      • In File Explorer, go to:
        • %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef
      • If the folder exists, delete it.
    • Open PowerPoint again.
    • Try installing the add-in again via File > Get Add-ins (or Home > Add-ins), then use Store or My Add-ins to add it.
    1. Reinstall the add-in if it is already listed
    • In PowerPoint, select File > Get Add-ins (or Home > Add-ins).
    • Choose More Add-ins.
    • On the My Add-ins tab, if the add-in is listed but not working:
      • Remove it.
      • Add it again from Store or by using Upload My Add-in if it is a custom manifest.
    1. Fix registry entries that block add-ins from starting Warning: Incorrect registry edits can cause system issues. Only proceed if comfortable editing the registry.
    • Close all Office apps.
    • Press Windows + R, type regedit, press Enter.
    • Go to:
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\WEF\Providers
    • For each subkey under Providers:
      • Check the UniqueId value.
      • If UniqueId ends with _ADAL (for example, 3a975b5d-ad3e-4e3d-84b0-a7e6776ba6a6_ADAL) or is Anonymous, delete that subkey.
    • Close Registry Editor.
    • Again delete the cache folder if present:
      • %localappdata%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef
    • Reopen PowerPoint and try installing the add-in again.
    1. Check for configuration or policy issues If an ADD-IN INFORMATION bar appears at the top of the task pane (for example, saying add-ins are blocked by configuration or policy), this indicates a Microsoft 365 configuration issue rather than a problem with the add-in itself. In that case, contact the Microsoft 365 administrator to review add-in policies as described in the add-in information bar.
    2. If add-ins still fail or crash If add-ins crash or fail to load after the above steps, run an Online Repair of Office to repair the Office installation and its add-in components. See the repair guidance in the referenced articles.

After each major step (cache clear + registry fix, then repair), retry installing the add-in from File > Get Add-ins.
