I think adding the mouse on each PC from Windows → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device → Bluetooth, and turning the mouse on in pairing mode, lets you pick it once per machine.

    1

    Turn on the mouse

Flip the mouse over and slide the power switch on. If it's brand new, remove the plastic battery tab first. A small LED near the switch should blink briefly.

    2

    Put it in pairing mode

Press and hold the small Bluetooth pairing button on the underside of the mouse (next to the battery compartment) for about 3-5 seconds until the LED starts blinking rapidly. Release the button.

    3

Open Bluetooth settings on device #1

On your laptop, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device > Bluetooth. Windows will start scanning for nearby devices.

    4

    Select the mouse and confirm

When your Surface mouse appears in the list (usually named something like 'Surface Mobile Mouse' or 'Surface Arc Mouse'), click it. It should pair automatically without needing a PIN.

    5

    Repeat on device #2

Put the mouse back into pairing mode (hold the pairing button again for 3-5 seconds), then repeat the same steps on your desktop's Bluetooth settings to pair it there too.

    6

    Switch between devices as needed

The mouse only actively connects to one device at a time. To switch, briefly turn the mouse off and on again near the device you want to use, or toggle Bluetooth off/on on the other device — it should reconnect to whichever is nearest and has Bluetooth active.

Below are steps for pairing a Microsoft/Surface Bluetooth mouse to both a laptop and a desktop running Windows 10 or Windows 11. The process is the same on each PC; just repeat it on the second computer.

    1. Turn the mouse on and enter pairing mode

    For most Surface/Microsoft Bluetooth mice:

    • Surface Mobile Mouse / Surface Mouse / Microsoft Ocean Plastic Mouse:
      1. Turn the mouse over.
      2. Press the power/Bluetooth button once to turn it on.
      3. Press and hold the same button until the LED starts flashing (about 3–5 seconds). This puts it in Bluetooth discovery mode.
    • Surface Arc Mouse:
      1. Snap the mouse into the curved position to turn it on.
      2. Turn it over and press and hold the pair button until the LED starts flashing (about 5 seconds).
    • Microsoft Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse:
      1. Slide the power switch on the bottom to turn it on.
      2. If it does not automatically go into pairing mode, press and hold the pairing button for about 5 seconds until the pairing light flashes.
    • Microsoft Adaptive Mouse:
      1. Press the power button to turn it on.
      2. If it is not already in pairing mode, press and hold the Bluetooth button until the light starts flashing.

If the light does not turn on or flash, check or replace the batteries.

    2. Pair the mouse on Windows 11

On each PC (laptop and desktop), do the following:

    1. On the PC, select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
    2. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
    3. Select Add device.
    4. Choose Bluetooth.
    5. When the mouse appears in the list (for example, Surface Mobile Mouse, Surface Mouse, Surface Arc Mouse, Microsoft Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse, Microsoft Ocean Plastic Mouse, or Microsoft Adaptive Mouse), select it.
    6. Wait until it shows as connected, then select Done.

Repeat these steps on the second PC. If the mouse supports multiple device slots (for example, Microsoft Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse or Microsoft Adaptive Mouse), press the Bluetooth/pairing button to switch to another device slot before pairing to the second PC.

    3. Pair the mouse on Windows 10

On each PC (laptop and desktop), do the following:

    1. Select Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
    2. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
    3. Select Add Bluetooth or other device.
    4. Select Bluetooth.
    5. Choose the mouse from the list (for example, Surface Mobile Mouse, Surface Mouse, Surface Arc Mouse, Microsoft Bluetooth Ergonomic Mouse, Microsoft Ocean Plastic Mouse, or Microsoft Adaptive Mouse).
    6. Follow any on‑screen instructions, then select Done.

Repeat these steps on the second PC, switching the mouse’s device slot first if it supports multiple PCs.

    4. If the mouse will not connect

If the mouse does not show up or will not pair:

    1. Confirm the mouse has power:
      • Press and hold the pairing button for 5–7 seconds and check that the LED blinks.
      • If there is no light, replace the batteries and try again.
    2. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on in Settings on the PC.
    3. Turn airplane mode on for 10–15 seconds and then off again.
    4. Turn off other Bluetooth devices connected to the PC to reduce interference.
    5. Remove the mouse from the Bluetooth devices list (if present) and pair it again.
    6. Test the mouse with another PC if available. If it only fails on one PC, there may be an issue with that PC’s Bluetooth adapter or drivers.
