SCCM CMG Content for a device in a different region than CMG

Hello All,

If we have SCCM CMG configured in East US and if there are devices in APAC/EMEA regions connected to internet. Will the devices in other regions than CMG requesting for sccm package/application receive content from East US? if yes then will there be a significant lag in the content download? if so should we create a CMG for each region so that they receive the content from the same region to improve the download speed?

Please suggest.

I believe Microsoft's recommendation is to create just one CMG and there isn't much lag even if the clients are in a different location.

    Hi,

    Thanks for posting in Q&A.

The Configuration Manager client is mostly unaffected by the slight latency that can occur with the cloud service even when geographically distant. So it is recommended that we could build a topology design like one CAS with multiple CMG connection points.

Adding a CAS and all of the baggage it brings is not the correct answer here and wouldn't address the perceived issue anyway as clients simply do not select CMGs based on any deterministic criteria -- it's basically a random selection.

The example from the documentation assumes the org already has a CAS and is not meant to address geo-location "issues" or imply that using a CAS would address them.

    Hi Prasanthrs

I have just finished a few similar projects that looks exactly like the environment you describe. I have done as recommended by the docs (1 CMG connected as close to my primary site and site connector point as possible), and it all runs without any significant delay. Policies and content is being delivered to all devices with pretty much the same experience for the user. Also bare in mind, that most of the content we deliver is content that the user never knows anything about hence will never experience any kind of delay. Rule of thumb is, don't over complicate your environment
