Advertiser identity verification appeals

Microsoft Advertising requires advertiser identity verification (AIV) to ensure that customers see ads from trusted sources to improve their overall experience.

You'll have three attempts to complete your identity verification. If your application fails, you can either resubmit once you review the reasons for the failure and attempt to fix it, or appeal the failed decision if you feel it was incorrect. However, if an appeal is submitted, you cannot make a new AIV attempt until the appeal is reviewed, which ideally takes 7-10 business days. If all three attempts fail and you have any issues or concerns with your verification results, you can submit an appeal or contact Support for further assistance.

Before submitting an appeal, make sure to review the documents carefully, as you're only allowed to submit an appeal once.

Depending on your AIV failure type, you can choose to appeal as a business or individual.

  • You can choose to appeal as a business if you represent or promote a business; for example, a law firm or a plumbing service.
  • You can choose to appeal as an individual if you represent or promote yourself as an individual; for example, if you're a freelance writer or food truck owner. You may also need to appeal as an individual if you provide an email outside of your business domain.

  • To submit an AIV appeal, please follow these steps

    1. From the navigation menu on the left, hover over Settings and select Account verifications.

      Note

      If you have multiple accounts, choose one from the account dropdown menu on the top left.

    2. If you have tried AIV and failed, you should see a blue popup with an appeal request form link under the Advertiser identity verification (AIV) status section.

    3. Select the link and fill out the form to submit an AIV appeal.
