Hi,

I can't change or insert jpg images in my Powerpoint. In the insert dialogue box, the jpg files are all greyed and can't be clicked.

I am using Powerpoint 2011 for Mac on a Macbook Pro Retina, 15 inch, late 2013 model, running OSX 10.9.4

Please help.

Thanks.

There are actually different formats (compressions) and extensions of jpg, which include in addition to jpg, jpeg, and jpeg2000. If I recall correctly the Insert pictures routine of PowerPoint for the Mac only recognizes the extension of "jpg". I'm not saying PowerPoint can't use the other formats, that's why you are able to drag and drop it, all I'm saying is that the Insert Function's file extension filter does not include JPEG... thus it's greyed out.

So the first thing I'd check is the letters on the image's extension.

    Hi Howard,

You might check InDesign and Illustrator if they have a setting for exporting to the Mac. I say this because both JPG and PNG formats are bitmap formats and the Mac looks for bitmaps in a 24 bit expression versus a 32 bit expression that the PC accepts.

If you are opening Photoshop on the Mac and then saving these InDesign and Illustrator created images, Photoshop would know to natively save these files in the correct 24 bit level expression.

This is all conjecture on my part... I don't know how rigid and platform exclusive InDesign and Illustrator are about the image files they create.

I was having the same problem for months. I was able to get it to show by re-saving the image as a JPG but make sure 'Embed Color Profile: sRGB....' etc. is checked in the Color area.

I've found that after exporting JPG files from InDesign that I had this problem as well… But after opening the exported JPG files in Photoshop and re-saving them I could quite happily place them into PowerPoint.

    Thanks for the advice!
