Access 2.0 to 2013

Hi all, my dad wants to transfer his old data from an old computer that is using access 2.0. To a brand new computer, he is worried that the old computer may fail and this will result in critical data lost. I'm currently looking for a way to obtain access 2.0 so I can transfer all my data across first and in the near future upgrade it to access 2013. How do I get a copy of access 2.0? I can't find it in the online store. Once it is up and running is it possible to upgrade to 2013? Or will 2.0 be fine?

I don't know what Microsoft's policy with respect to trial subscriptions is.

    1. On the MSDN Subscriptions page, click 'Subscriber Downloads'.
    2. Enter 'Access 2.0' in the Search box, then click Go.
    3. Click Details in the search results; you'll see for which types of subscription Access 2.0 is available.
    4. If available to you, the Download button will be on the right hand side.

Great! I'm currently on trial for the subscription but cant seem to download. Do I have to pay first? Even so, what are the download instructions?

Yes, if you have a MSDN subscription, you can download and install any version of Access, including 2.0. It won't run on Windows 8 however.

(You can use https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/Home to find out which applications will run)

Thank you very much for your reply. But is there anyway for me to obtain Access 2000, 2002 / 2003? I read some where the MSDN subscription has access 2.0?

Access 2.0 is 22 years old - it was released in 1993. I don't think you'll be able to get it anywhere, and moreover, it almost certainly won't run on any recent version of Windows (it was designed for Windows 3.1).

Access 2013 cannot convert or open Access 2.0 databases.

You'll have to find a computer that still runs Access 2000, 2002 (aka XP) or 2003. Use this to convert the Access 2.0 database to an Access 2000 or Access 2002-2003 format database. Access 2000 and 2002 have this capability built-in, for Access 2003 you'll have to install a free converter, available from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3417.

Access 2013 can work with an Access 2000 or Access 2002-2003 database without needing to convert it, but if you wish you can convert it to the newer Access 2007-2013 format.

You might run into issues: Access has changed a lot over the years, so some features of the old database may not work in Access 2013.
