MS Project 2010 - Predecessors do not display in 'Task Information'

Hi,

I have a couple of Project 2010 plans that were working fine until I decided to save the in 2007 format. After that the 'Task Name' under 'Predecessors' (Task Information dialog) does not show up.  I removed the link and re-add it but the issue remains.

I saved the project to the original format (2010) but the issue persists. Any ideas how to proceed?

Thanks

Costas

    Costas,

The first question is, do you have SP2 installed for Project 2010 and SP3 installed for Project 2007? If you do not, all "bets" are off, you need to install those updates immediately as they are critical to cross-version compatibility.

Even if you do have all updates installed, working between versions, particularly Project 2010 and above with versions prior to Project 2010, is not the most ideal scenario. It's better to settle on a particular version and stick with that.

That being said, it is possible your file became corrupt. If you have all updates installed, try saving the Project 2010 file as XML and then re-open in Project 2010. That process usually clears corruption, but not always. Note: by using this process you will lose any custom formatting.

    Hope this helps.

    John

    John,

The export to XML solved the problem. Unfortunately I don't have SP2 installed and I can't installed it either (corporate desktop).

    Thanks for your help

    Costas,

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. If my response answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Very important - you need to submit your request to IT to have SP2 installed. As a minimum you should also request that the June 2013 cumulative update be installed as it was released after SP2 and contains many important fixes. Until those updates are installed you are at risk for several problems with Project and do not even consider working across versions. Fair warning.

    John
